Balm of Gilead is an incredibly old and time honored remedy dating back to biblical times. Balm of Gilead is also a time honored respiratory supportive herb and can be used as a steam, or as a chest rub when made into a salve.
Biblical mentions used balm of Gilead that was derived from trees found in the Middle East, however now it’s often made from poplar trees found in North America. The balm is made from resin extracted from the buds of several poplar species, some more potent than others.
After an herbal oil is created with these resinous buds, a salve is made with beeswax so it’s easier to apply topically.
