A while ago I was frustrated with postpartum hair loss. I wanted to make a blend to support my body during this time, to help nourish, strengthen and restore. It’s been many years and I still find this such a valuable glycerite in so many of life's seasons! I wanted to support my body, address the stress and other root causes for hair loss (not just hormones), and keep my hair (and nails, skin, bones ect!) as healthy as I could. After drinking this for a few weeks I was super happy with it and added it into my permanent line up. I crafted this blend with Organic Horsetail, Organic Oatstraw, Organic Gotu Kola, Organic Hibiscus, Organic Rosehips and Organic Schisandra Berries
Horsetail, this herb is probably most well known for its silica content (synthesizes collagen). It's one of the best sources known in the plant world at this point. There have been several studies showing increased hair growth and volume when utilizing horsetail regularly by decreasing breakage, strengthening hair strands and increasing elasticity. It's a vitamin and mineral "bomb", as is Oatstraw!
Gotu Kola has been traditionally used as a tonic for connective tissues, to help strengthen and repair (great for postpartum!) As well as skin and nails by helping us produce collagen. It nourishes the scalp and improves circulation which has been found to nourish and strengthen hair follicles. It's also a wonderful nervine, nourishing the nervous system and calming anxiety, providing mental clarity. Over all this is such a wonderful herb to nourish and heal.
Oatstraw, another silica rich herb. Silica plays a crucial role in strengthening hair, skin and nails. Promoting health rather than just growth. This is another nervine as well, an incredibly restorative herb. It’s also been found to aid with dandruff and itchy scalps.
Shisandra berries, this incredible adaptogen is well known in TCM as a restorative herb. Considered a scalp circulation and scalp quality, which then leads to healthy hair "beautifying" herbs, just one note among its long list of amazing benefits
