Let’s talk about a remedy thats been in my lineup for probably 7 years or so but I haven’t done many informationals on it and I KNOW it confuses people as to what it actually is because of the name 😆
This was a happy little accident back then and the main reason I want to do a recap on it is to familiarize folks with it, but also to touch on the incredible lymphatic drainage benefits it offers as that’s what I’ve been using it for recently.
Under arm lymph nodes are a major drainage highway for metabolic waste, fluid, toxins, hormones. That armpit puffiness? Most likely related to a stagnant lymph. Body congestion so often is written off as excess fat, but really it’s trapped fluid and waste building pressure inside of tissues. There are so many causes that trigger a stagnant lymphatic system. Things like poor sleep, chronic high cortisol, hormonal shifts, sedentary lifestyles, chronic inflammation and so on. Basically what’s happening in the body is capillaries become more permeable which allows fluid to leak into tissue. This causes the lymphatic system to be unable to keep up so fat cells start to enlarge and cluster. Pretty much everything in this remedy supports the lymphatic system and helps with decongestion. So maybe I need to rename it, again 😂😭
How it was born: Way back when, I needed to get a deodorant to a sweet customer. I started making this initially because most natural deodorants really hurt my skin, and one of these tins would last me super long. It’s been a while since I’ve used it as a deodorant, mainly because of the color but I will probably pick it back up this summer.
Anyways, so I'm making the deodorant and having a little bit of a situation with poison ivy on my ankle. I always end up with a "halfie" that I end up keeping when I make batches of remedies, and I realized that literally everything in our deodorant is amazing for poison ivy! Normally I don't like salves for poison ivy because the whole point is to dry it out so it can heal, and salves keep the moisture in. But this deodorant is a blend of Clay, Diatomaceous earth which is awesome for drying out poison ivy, magnesium hydroxide (does NOT sting like magnesium chloride, this is the key for this deodorant, the magnesium just completely eliminates odors. A lot of people use milk of magnesia for deodorant and the active ingredient is magnesium chloride, BUT it also has bleach and gross stuff) and believe it or not magnesium hydroxide is incredible for poison ivy and a ton of other rashes, even diaper rashes, and Arrowroot. Our deodorant also has Sage, a great herb for Poison Ivy, and Rosemary!
So I put it on my poison ivy situation and so much relief!! Now the deodorant is also a poison ivy balm 😆Non toxic and aluminum free. Crafted with Wildcrafted Sage, Wildcrafted Yarrow, Wildcrafted Rosemary, Local Sunflower Oil, Local Beeswax, Green Clay, Diatomaceous Earth, Milk of Magnesia (Magnesium Hydroxide), Arrowroot Powder.
So, let’s meet the plants!
Sage is a wonderful antimicrobial which helps eliminate the bacteria that causes unwanted smells and has been used since ancient times. Its also antihydrotic which helps with perspiration. Ive used both sage that I powdered down and added to the final mix, as well as Sage that I solar infused in the coconut oil. Another herb I added to the solar infusion is Yarrow. Yarrow aids with eliminating toxins and has incredible skin soothing properties, while it is a diaphoretic-applied topically that is not the case and can help dry oily skin. The last herb I added to the solar infusion is Rosemary which in itself is antimicrobial, antiseptic, and carries astringent properties as well. I've included both local beeswax to both firm it up and keep it silky smooth. Arrowroot also helps reduce smells, that paired with diatomaceous earth which is well known for its odor eliminating properties. It is pH neutral which makes it perfect for sensitive skin while still being effective. I've also included Green clay which works similarly to Diatomaceous earth neutralizing odors. Lastly we have Milk of Magnesia. This is a common deodorant alternative and is commonly used as a spray, however all the Milk of Magnesia I found had a bunch of extra additives that I did not want touching my skin-like bleach for example. So I went straight to the source, and found the active ingredient in milk of magnesia that is used for its deodorizing properties is the magnesium. Magnesium Hydroxide specifically. Its much gentler on the skin then other forms of magnesium. It works by eliminating any odor causing bacteria on the skin. So while this deodorant IS NOT an anti perspirant because it is important for our bodies to perspire to get rid of toxins, it does have some minor antiperspiration properties with the sage, so it can at least keep things under control
